Letting Go For Higher Ground

Today is a landmark day for me; it will be my final Talk YOUR Story show – at least for now. Letting go of things is difficult, but if we ever want to be free to move to God’s higher ground for us, we have to. God calls us from glory to glory as we grow. Like the trapeze artist who cannot hold on to one bar while grabbing the next, we must rely completely on faith as we move between the bars, aka move forward. It scary and exciting. God loves a heart that will put confidence in HIM. Want something fresh? Want to move forward? Want excitement and adventure? Want freedom to live in joy? Then, loosen the death grip on “whatever,” and LET GO. God has got your back! I hope you can share this final show with us!

Taking The Hit

Did you ever think you needed to make a change, but didn’t do it? Was it something big like breaking off a partnership or changing the way you interact with a loved one? Maybe it was a call of God on your life… Why don’t we do what we know we should do, or even must do? Taking the steps to make a change involves loss and usually pain, a “hit” of sorts. Have you thought about the cost of living in the familiar? Listen in today as we explore common barriers to change, and easy, yet challenging, reasons to “take the hit.”

The Power of Self-Boundaries!

Against gentleness and self-control, there is no law. Galatians 5:23
Isn’t it easy to point a critical finger, especially at a spouse? Since we can’t control or change someone else, why not put our energy where we DO have some power? Often we want something from someone that we don’t even offer ourselves. Sometimes, we don’t express our needs in an effective way, or we fail to draw boundaries when they are needed. These things are our own responsibility. How wonderful it is to open our hearts to correction, knowing the whole time that God loves us right now, just as we are! Join us on the 14th or you’ll be missed!

Boundaries, Part 2

The Bible uses the phrase “unfailing love” 32 times. Not once is it attributed to humans. It would be wise for us to consider our own imperfect love as we continue this week on the topic of boundaries. In the book, Boundaries in Marriage, Henry Cloud and John Townsend discuss 10 “Laws of Boundaries.” They are likened to gravity in that we don’t have to acknowledge them or even “believe in them,” but nonetheless, they are in effect. I think it wise to educate ourselves, so that we will recognize them when they are in play and take responsibility for protecting our marriage, our spouse, and ourselves. Now doesn’t that sound good? You BET it is!!

Princess

This message touched my own heart deeply. It is my favorite show – so far! The message is uplifting and powerful! I wish to share it with you today, as technical difficulties prevented it from streaming live on the original air date. Ladies, especially (but men too), this show is from me to you! Lisa

A Princess… that is what God created every one of his daughters to be. We ladies joke that we’re princesses – that’s why we like things “just so.” But the amazing, maybe startling truth is that it’s true. Each of God’s girls is a sparkling gem, a beloved princess. What would happen to our lives if we stepped into the favor that God has planned for the woman wearing His royal garments? Are you dressed properly?
Although his blessings and favor exist, we cannot experience them unless we claim our rightful identity. Will we live our lives in blindness that is hand delivered by our enemy? Step out into your royal heritage and live like the chosen one that you most certainly are! Ohana, this show is called Princess, but it could have been called Prince, so men, don’t miss this powerful message!

Boondocks

Did you ever use your life history as an excuse for your current behavior? Hey, don’t lie to me, not for a second. I’ve done it. You’ve done it, but there comes a time to “mature up.” Even if, from the bottom of our hearts, we believe our “reasons” for being as we are, we’ve got to admit, they are mighty convenient. God’s plan for us includes big backwoods ponds of freedom. It doesn’t matter where you are from or what your story is, God has written a bigger, truer story for you that is your destiny. If you want all He has for you, then you have to get into agreement with God about his plans for you. Why not decide it’s time to learn a little more, in order to step boldly into all that you are to become?

Did you ever find out that someone you trusted was not trustworthy? What happens inside of us when this happens? We must not judge someone else for what may be a brief period of failure. However, another’s failure to do what is right can sometimes deal us a crushing blow that can steal our joy – for even a whole lifetime, if we let it. Sharing a Listener Email

Hi Lisa,

I listened to most of the Princess story. It was a great message. I got it. I think sometimes we don't really realize how much God loves us and what he has planned for our lives or how he sees us. Faith...with that we can trust and believe how beautiful we all are in his eyes by which we need to believe it ourselves. I don't know if that makes sense but your story was very touching and you definitely came across with a voice full of sincerity, caring and love. Thanks for lifting us up. Thank you GOD!

Only God's Truth Heals

Yes, we’re back on the very important subject of truth! “Our” truth comes from life experience. God’s truth is eternal and unbiased. He makes no errors in memory and never distorts the facts. God’s truth has certain hallmarks: it is encouraging, empowering, healing and penetrating. Without God’s truth as a foundation, our truth can leave us handicapped and broken (in places unseen). Who doesn’t need the truth that can free us? A freed life is a healed life! The healed life is a powerhouse for God!

The Human Bentley, Part 2

Last week, I asked how you care for your Bentley. If you think you don’t have one, then look in the mirror. God has given you a magnificent body, and control over how you care for it. Our bodies, according to the Bible, are not our own. 1 Corinthians 3:16 reads: Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s spirit lives in you? Today, we continue the discussion about caring for the human Bentley. Is it worth the effort? Is it just our choice? Do our choices affect others? Can we even win in the polluted, chemical laden world we live in? Well stay tuned, there is good news!

How Do You care For Your Bently?

How Do You Care For Your Bentley? Our deluxe model bodies are truly awe inspiring. They do so much for us, but what do we do for, or to, them? Today there are many exposures in our environment that are harmful to our health. Probably the most profound exposure we have is what we choose eat. For many years Eastern medicine has recognized that food has the power to heal or harm. Western medicine is slowly catching on. It’s about time. Our wealthy, unhealthy nation is a bit of a disgrace. Does God care how we care for our bodies? Are they really ours?

A Balanced Perspective

We can focus our attention on the good that surrounds us, or we can focus on the bad. Which is right? How do we live with joy and yet remain sensitive to all the suffering of this world? A balanced perspective not only helps with this dilemma, but can empower us to do our part to change this world for the better. If you want to sit back and say “why doesn’t God fix this world?”, then this may not be the show for you. If you want to step up to the plate of loving responsibility, then tune in today and move forward with a plan.

It doesn’t always feel like there are choices, does it? Some things are beyond our control, like the loss of a child, a divorce, or a difficult illness. Nonetheless, there are always choices. Our most powerful choices have to do with ourselves and our own character. We are always free to make choices about our own attitude. A willingness to be honest with ourselves and to make fresh decisions are also within reach.

How deep is Your Love?

That isn’t a casual question; and, how deep is God’s love for you? These are two of the most important questions we will ever face. They should be asked and evaluated daily. What does loving someone mean to you? Too often our love is tainted with selfishness and fear.
“God loves you” is a nice statement. Has it become cliché to you? It’s far from that to God, who is not only the extreme lover of our souls, but the actual source of love. God IS love. Tragically, we often fall very short of the plan God has for us to experience his tenderness and know his security. We are to receive from Him and then pass His love forward. Tune in today and grab sacred keys that allow your love meter to read “FULL!”

Christian Cliches

It’s a shame that some of the most impactful phrases ever spoken have been spoken so often that they have lost their power to inspire, stimulate, and deeply encourage us. “The Truth will set you free”, “Jesus loves you”, and “All things work for good for those who love Him” come to mind. We are taught in the book of James that our words contain power. What about God’s word? Listen up today as we explore how to keep the deep and precious word of God meaningful and alive as we speak it into this world.

It's All in the Children's Faces

We live in a world of hurt, but we can, one by one, make a difference. Listen to the April 3, 09 show for the amazing story of how Angela Aki was inspired to write a song for teens in Japan. The song called Tegami, or The Letter, has lyrics about a letter written from a grown woman to her 15 year-old self. Angela Aki has touched the lives of thousands of discouraged children with her song that encourages believing in one's self and a future of promise. It's all in the faces of the children. There is no language barrier in this video.

Tune in Friday for this beautiful story!

Angela Aki, gifted pianist and singer, has profoundly impacted Japanese youth with her song “The Letter” (Tegami). People of all ages are drawn to Angela’s sell-out performances at Tokyo’s Nippon Budokan. This theatre seats 14,201 and was the site of the Japanese debut of The Beatles. Tegami is a song about a youth who writes a letter to her older self in the future. Lyrics featuring interchange between the young writer and the “older” self have been a catalyst for discussion and encouragement throughout schools and in many venues across Japan. It has especially impacted the mid-teen youth for which it was written. Without hearing the words in English, one can still experience the passion of the song by simply watching this video. Tune in Friday to hear Angela’s mother, Amy, tell the phenomenal story of how this song came to be. God can truly exchange beauty for ashes!

What is Truth?

There is more than one truth, depending on how you look at things. Sometimes we say that there isn’t an absolute truth, because we look around and see how several different people can experience or interpret the same set of facts differently. So who is “right?” This kind of truth is human truth. Our own truth is useful, but thankfully, there is an absolute truth that is greater than our own. Our own truth seen in the light of God’s truth results in freedom - in every conceivable way. Praise Him all heaven and all earth!!

Life is Short

Eternal life is, needless to say, pretty long! Our days on this earth, however, are quite limited. We blink and we’re adults. We blink again and we are parents. Another blink, and we’re already at mid-life or old age. The Bible tells us that this life is but a breath or a mist. It passes quickly. During this walk of life, who do we need to love more? Do we appreciate that we may not have a tomorrow to make amends? Life is not lost by dying; life is lost minute by minute, day by dragging day, in all the thousand small uncaring ways. ~Stephen Vincent Benét

Communicating to be Heard

When we really communicate, two (or more) people are involved. The other person must really hear and understand what we say in order for there to be true communication. Although we can’t control another’s response, we can do things to optimize the chances of getting a good one. A little self-control and forethought can go a long way toward producing a successful “meeting of the minds.” Even if we don’t get the response we are hoping for, we can sleep well knowing that we have done what we can, and done it well!

Making 2009 the Best Year Yet

What are you planning for in 2009? Hopefully, you are planning for a great year. The world outside of us may not change drastically, but nothing can stop us from changing for the better – if we so choose. In the Bible, God tells us not to be dismayed by what we see in the world. Stock markets, wars, and even health-care issues can provide fuel for worry unless we resist and stand firm in our faith. When we change for the better, it is reflected in the world. Flirting with Temptation

There are lots of tempting things in this world: money, food, gossip, sex, power… What tempts you? None of us has a perfect record. Even Jesus, himself, was tempted. If we know that we have a weak area, what do we do? Do we guard ourselves by protecting our hearts? Flirting with temptation is like standing with our toes over the edge of a cliff. If we fall, the price may be very high.
